I knew most of this about octopuses except their mating process... poor males cannibalized?! It's kinda freakish and sad. Sad from a human perspective though, maybe the octopuses are into it :P
I know about at least 2 other species who have a similar destructive mating process, the anglerfish and the praying mantis. Kinda fucked up imo, but would be fun to find out how this process evolved.
