It should be similar. People on bench are usually released earlier as compared to those who are in project. You can initiate E-separation and directly contact your manager and ask him to relieve you. Tell him/her that you are on bench and you want immediate release.

If you are in bench and serving notice period then you can ask for immediate release. Mostly the managers accomodate this easily
