Notice period changed after probation

Hi everyone, I have completed probation and I checked on my portal that now my notice period is changed to 3 months even though my offer letter has 1 month mentioned. I have contacted management and they are saying like policies are changed and this will be applicable from now. Can companies do this w/o informing me ?
