I have the same question in my mind from several years they also got referral opportunity from some others that same help they need to do for others who were in needy
Here I observed once they got into that like product based they are forgetting that and their attitude getting into arrogance and worst so I used to be stay away from them literally will delete their contacts and never ever tried to reach them even friends also once they get into same situation they will realise that nothing but Karma

Company expecting employees to refer people with whom they worked not just random people. I referred many people, but none got selected because their skills set was not good. Hr called me and asked not to refer random people.

There is no upside. One trait that get ingrained into employees from day 1 is not do anything unless they see an upside in getting involved.
That's the difference between a businessman and salaried employee.
Instead of this they would work hard and wonder how to "network".
