Non-Tech roles in Non-traditional work and the growth opportunities for a CA - Question
This question basically stems from my discussion with my department partner at EY and how the component of Tech is the major factor to get lateral mobility or opportunities abroad
I am a CA and work in Risk Consulting mostly dealing with Process, Controls, SOX, ERP implementations from process side and I put down my papers. When discussing reasons for leaving and my career plans in the next few years, one of the topics that came up was how I would like to do an MBA from a top Bschool in US possibly (I am aware of the market, Trump, ROI all those factors) some time down the line to move into Finance roles because I don't really like what I do but also because I believe that this work doesn't pay exponentially well.
He mentioned how there is no way we as CAs already having experience in a certain domain could pivot to different roles within Finance unless we start out from scratch or ready to take a paycut just to stay at the same designation. He also went on to say how Tech and anything Tech related is the only way to advance career (given that my experience is in a Non-traditional domain expected out of a CA) and definitely for moving abroad, because even if I do get an MBA, companies prefer to hire non-immigrants in Non-Tech roles and emigration is next to not possible unless it is an internal transfer that makes it possible. Tech is the only way is brown people are taken seriously enough to be considered for jobs abroad or paid extremely well.
So based on this I'd like to know your thoughts on this :
- Would you agree with this thought?
- What certifications and tech adjacent certifications would you recommend to land roles within the Tech landscape, to get a chance at a high paying salary in the later years of my career.
- What is the best way to move into Tech roles after you have already started your career in some other domain? Is it even worth it to switch domains like this?
Apologies for the slightly long write up.
