No value for emotions and feelings

I recently joined a new project,work has not started but will start from next week.unfortunetley my mothers surgery is on next week itself. I wanted to take care of her. Hence I requested one week of leave from my manager. He shouted at me like next week's project is starting and you are asking leave so in front of the client my image will be spoiled because of you etc.. I am so disappointed and deeply hurt.
