Trending @Infosys; New project, high pressure, no KT

I recently joined Infosys and was allocated a project immediately. The project has people working remotely and I am the only developer at my location. I was allocated a person for 15 days for the knowledge transfer (KT), however I didn’t have the proper access for 15 days, so I spent my time for obtaining scores of accesses in that time. No one guided me and the person allocated by the PM for KT didn’t show any interest either. A few days before the KT period got over I raised the issue with the PM and he said that a different person would be allocated to give me KT for next 1 week and that I was expected to work ‘independently’ after that. Now, the second person also showed interest in the KT for a first few days and then started ignoring my requests and questions. I am not sure how I am going to work on this project or save myself here, since it is a tech heavy project and my team members have been withholding information from me and my PM has put everything on me.

Any suggestions to resolve the above situation would be welcome.

  1. What tech stack are you working on / your project is built in?
  2. You joined Infosys as a fresher or lateral?
  3. What is your background? CSE? ECE? Any other engineering?

My project is built in Angular, I joined lateral with 4 years experience as JL4. Background is CSE

You are expected to work in the front end only or backend also? If backend also, what technology? Java? Spring? Node.js? Something else?

Hey. I can tell about my similar situation. Although, ultimate result can be different from you. I was told that I would be given KT but after so many days no KT, on top of that they started assigning tasks. When I asked the contact person about KT, he told that he is busy and not getting time. The good thing though was whenever I used to ask about my assigned task, he always used to connect and help me. So with this only, I got to learn in the project without any KT.

I think initially it is a bit difficult to adjust in a new project. But even after many days, if the person does not help or responds you properly, then you can raise the issue with your PM

My situation is similar to yours and I’m also reaching out to team folks for support in relation to the current task assigned to me. But even then my teammates are rude and non responsive to my requests. I already reached out to PM once and he said he has left everything on me and has said that I have to perform irrespective of anything.

I can understand. But still I will say wait for 2 or 3 months more, if nothing then maybe try to leave the project

That’s generally the story of IT especially in this wfh culture. New people struggle. When taking laterals the new org thinks they can just perform from start as they have thrown lot of money to hire. Existing team mates don’t support you as you are paid more for the same job. PM is not on ground and has no idea of the work or KT , he has just replaced one resource with another . It’s assumed you will manage it. So get your head down, prepare to put in extras hours / slog. Make friends in the project to get help from. Ask questions. Keep everything in email so managers are aware where you are stuck etc.

Exactly. This spoils the work, project culture and is potentially hazardous to the project too! But PMs act like they don’t know it. Thanks for your suggestions especially the one to keep everything in mail.

Either you will get a new requirement, which is great OR you will continuing other people dev work - which is perfect for you to start reverse engineering . Enjoy the project

Sorry to hear that bro..But this is right time and opportunity it will make you or break you . If they are not providing proper KT then it is very possible that they themselve have limited knowledge and skills sets that they are afraid to share ..Don't be discouraged try to take only the guidance and try to get the documents on the project whatever you can get ..Gather some knowledge and then try to reason with Seniors ..This is how it works

Clearly explain that whatever you received the Information, Based on it the development will be completed.

If they explain 10% information, 10% development will be completed.

If they explain 90% information, 90% development will be completed.

Ask your PM to facilitate the LHD, HLD documents
