New Policy Update - Thoughts?

I'm a Software Developer,

Our company has announced that we now need to be on the system for 8 hours 30 minutes (active working time). Lunch and tea breaks will not be counted in this, which means we'll end up being in office for 10+ hours most days.

While I understand the intent to improve productivity, this feels quite tough in practice. Longer screen time brings eye strain, back/ posture issues, and adds to the overall stress of spending such extended hours at work. Plus, when you include commute, it leaves very little personal time.

Most companies in the industry usually expect around 9 hours total (including breaks). Here, the requirement feels higher than the norm, and I'm not sure if it's sustainable in the long run.

Would love to know what others think about this policy. Do you feel the same way?
