Never marry an alcoholic/drug abuser

But in many cases, people slowly become alcoholics/drug-addicts many years after the initial marriage. I have seen such cases in my extended family too.

In this story too, they were married for 12 years, before the incident happened.

So while the advice to not marry such a person is valid, it's not often practically applicable at the time of marriage itself.
