Hey all,
This is going to be an awkward post, in principle I have 12 yoe but throughout this I have never had salary accounted to my account officially.
First 5.5 years were at 2 small web agencies who did work from O-desk ( presently known as upwork) and local shops, salary was paid in cash and I was okay with it. That's when one of my friend who did his mtech from iit m got offer from flipkart decided to start something on his own and we decided to start together. 6 years of hell we shut it on Nov of 2023. I did a Masters from a no name university (2022-24) as I felt there was gap in my technical skills and knowledge.
The startup we did was a hybrid similar to pepperfry and homelane. Operations cost was higher than what we could handle eventually we had to shut it.
My question is how can I show to hiring managers that I have experience, I'm very bad doing anything remotely sketchy, event though I created a resume with some made up points, I was hesitant to send it out, my life situation is a bit messy so I send out to many companies different resumes which includes this fabricated one, out of 1200 applications I sent I got 4 interview calls, I chickened out of all of them as I thought it's not fair to other qualified candidates.
I have no idea what position to put there, I have done everything as we were a team of just 5, I have don't web page designing, hosting, recommendation systems, clustering based on pincodes for efficient last mile delivery, a chat bot with Rasa framework, a furniture valuation tool, hr work, vendor management, physical delivery of furniture more times than I can count of, and what not.
I do not know what position to apply for, I have applied for pm, project Manager, data analyst, data scientist, sde, operations, sales, and almost all other positions.
Other thing is I am in huge debt that I borrowed from my families and relatives (none of them pester me though), I feel guilty of not able to pay them back. By huge I mean 8 figures.
Yeah I'm a naive guy, have a go at this and honestly I want to hear your harshest of takes.
I Thank you from my heart for sparing time to read this,
Fellow grapevine and longest lurker.
