Hi friends

I am a Mobile Application Developer with 7.5 years of experience, currently working with a media organization. On February 2, 2022, I joined the company as a Flutter Developer. In my previous organization, I had been promoted to the position of Mobile Team Lead.

However, during the hiring process for my current company, the interview was conducted specifically for a Flutter Developer role. When I was selected and asked for the offer letter, I was informed by HR that the organization only provides offer letters after joining, and a mail confirmation would be provided beforehand.

I joined the company based on this confirmation. About a week after joining, I received the official offer letter, which surprisingly mentioned the role as simply “Developer.” I raised this concern with HR, but they informed me that the company does not have a formal “Team Lead” designation. When I requested at least a “Senior Developer” title, I was told that the company’s hierarchy consists of “Developer,” followed by “Team Lead,” and then higher positions, and that they do not skip levels. I accepted the situation and continued under these terms.

Soon after joining, my team lead assigned me to an Android project, even though I was hired for a Flutter role. When I asked about Flutter projects, he said there were none available. Disappointed, I submitted my resignation. However, my team lead convinced me to stay, promising that I would be assigned a Flutter project within three months. I trusted his word and decided to continue.

Initially, I was the only developer in the team, and all projects were outsourced. Over time, we began transitioning projects in-house, and I played a key role in building the internal team. We hired one Developer and two Freshers, and I took full responsibility for training the freshers to bring them up to production-level proficiency.

After about a year, during the appraisal cycle, I requested a designation change to Team Lead, as I was already handling full team responsibilities. My tech lead informed me that promotions typically do not occur within a year in the organization but assured me I would be considered for the Team Lead role in the next cycle.

In the second year, I was promoted from Developer to Senior Developer. Again, I inquired why I wasn’t promoted to Team Lead, considering my contributions and leadership. I was told that the “Senior Developer” role had just been introduced and that Team Lead positions were currently unavailable. Once again, I was assured I would be considered for Team Lead the following year. Meanwhile, my tech lead was promoted to Project Manager.

Now, in my third year, I have not received any promotion. When I discussed this with my Project Manager, he said I was promoted last year, so I would not be considered this year.

At this point, I decided to limit myself strictly to the responsibilities of a Senior Developer. I informed my manager that I would no longer be taking on additional responsibilities such as mentoring, team management, or handling project-level tasks.

Since making this decision (about seven days ago), my manager has started treating me unfairly and constantly tries to find faults in my work.
