Yes it is 5 years old at this point, but Apple supports products for really long time. I don't think it should be a problem for next 4- 5 years atleast because even the latest m4 is not drastically better.

Get a used thinkpad (or similar models in dell or hp like elitebook or latitude) or new thinkbook with good processor. They last long and if you need to upgrade RAM and SSD, you have an option to do that in future.
