Put down paper.
See, I will tell you what happened recently with a colleague of mine.
She got 2 job offers. The first company, Interview done and everything was going fine till the topic of NP came. They told reach out once she puts down her paper.
Second company, everything went smoothly. Salary negotiation was also completed successfully.
However, they are not willing to release the compensation document when they got to know she is not currently serving NP.
She wants to stay in TCS and she has fought for a Pay increase. Even though our manager told she needs a pay increase on email as per market standards the HR replied stating let her bring proof she is getting this much package then we will "think" about it.
Now you see her plight. She cannot get the compensation doc from the other company cause she is not serving NP and she wont get offer within TCS cause she did not get compensation doc for proof from the other organisation.
Finally she put down her paper. Accepted the job from the second company. The company was/is willing to wait cause of her skill set mainly. Got the compensation doc. Shared it with TCS but the whole experience has made clear she will not be staying with here after this debacle. She is done serving 1.5 months. Funny thing is till date our org hasn't come up with a counter offer.
This previously happened to another colleague as well. After alot of back and forth our amazing org was only willing to pay 50% of what the new company offered so yeah he left immediately.
You may feel playing it safe is good. It would work if you are having very high demand skill set that makes you irreplaceable wherever you go. But if you have a skill set that alot of individuals can offer please be ready to take risk. Especially if you are below 35 and no commitments. Cause otherwise there aint no reward.
