If they have the right experience, ask for the higher range on the US salary.
Don't try and be an economist by going PPP and figuring out what'll appear reasonable. Never negotiate with yourself.
Interesting. But I've almost always have had US startups telling me that the salary will be normalised depending on where I am located. Does the opposite also happen?
Depends on the outcomes you are driving. I know folks in very very large India ODCs getting paid what they were in the US.
What you say is true if they have some / significant India presence.
In the OPs case, seems like a truly remote job - a one off. Why would they bother normalising for one hire?
