Need Guidance - Onsite Projects

I recently had a discussion with my manager regarding my release and I have received confirmation that they will release me after 2 months(got mail confirmation as well). Since I am considered as a critical resource, I have been asked to ensure a proper handover before moving out of the project.

As I am particularly interested in onsite opportunities, I would like to understand whether I can look for an onsite role within TCS during this period starting from now. Additionally, I would appreciate clarity on the project allocation process: 1. Until when can I actively search for a new project before being forcefully assigned by RMG? 2. How much flexibility is provided in selecting a project and will I have ample opportunities to explore onsite projects? 3. What is the likelihood of securing an onsite opportunity within TCS considering that I was previously promised opportunity but it did not materialize?

4. I heard that if we get onsite projects from different unit, the current unit RMG will not approve to move to other unit. Is that true? If yes, what I can do to move to that unit

For context, I am relatively new to TCS with one year of experience. I am Technical Manager in Azure Cloud infra. Since this project does not align with my goals, I requested a release to explore better suited opportunities. (Note: Before TCS I worked with multiple companies and all are product based. Service based is completely different to me🙃. They promised me onsite during the interview process and now it’s not happening!!)

I would appreciate your guidance on how to proceed and any insights on securing an onsite opportunity within TCS.

  1. You need to select a project within 30 days, after that RMG will start forcing
  2. This depends on RMG. If the assigned RMG person is good then you won't have issues.
  3. I'll suggest don't expect much. Think this way, when you join a new project, the project manager doesn't have an idea about your performance, behaviour and all. So they won't send you right away. But do ask for a project with an onsite opportunity
  4. Yes in most cases it will be difficult to change unit. No one knows the exact steps. It all depends on RMG, Unit Head, new project manager.
