Hey everyone,
I’m really confused and could use some honest advice.
I have two offers in hand right now:
• Option 1: Join British Petroleum (BP) as a contractor for 1 year, with a possibility of extension (subject to internal factors). It’s a remote role with very good pay and stronger job scope in terms of work exposure and learning.
• Option 2: Join a small IT consulting company in a permanent role, also remote. The pay is lower, and the SAP projects they handle are limited — so not much excitement or future tech stack exposure compared to BP.
My confusion is mainly around the risk with the contract role — like what if it doesn’t get extended after a year? Would it hurt my resume? How do future prospects look if I go with a big brand like BP even if it’s a contract role? On the other hand, the permanent role feels “safer” but I worry it might slow down my career growth due to limited opportunities.
Have any of you faced a similar decision?
Would you prioritize pay and brand (with some risk) or stability (but slower growth)?
Any insights or advice would be hugely appreciated!
