Need advice -Please help!!

I am a software developer with an experience of 2 years, I got laid of in May 2023, post that I decided to take a break and learn some skills, I got my hands dirty into UI/UX design and then dropped it after 6 months, I got desperate for a job and started applying to tech jobs in 2024, January Feb March, got no luck and decided to enter product management instead, I found it rather interesting and have been pursuing it since, did a formal structured certification as well with Nextleap. I have been looking for job since. But with a 2 yr experience and 1.5 year gap, do you think I can enter product ? I am getting shortlisted pretty rarely.

  1. How much does having a portfolio help?
  2. How much does building a product prototype or launching something of your own help? What else can I do? PS: Is going back to software would make it easier for me, since I just want to enter back into the industry and start working
