Need advice on negotiation

Hi Everyone,

I got an offer from CTS for 20.5 LPA. Last week I got offer from HCL for 22.7LPA(1.3LPA VP), I am yet to accept it.

I have heard that HCL is doing lot of micro management like tracking all apps usage, teams call history, keyboard typing, etc...

So I am planning to join CTS, but how can I negotiate with them? What should I tell them, if they ask why I still want to join CTS, why not the organisation with higher CTC. And what are all the other questions, that I might encounter while negotiating with CTS?

Hi @Wip5, sounds like you're leaning towards CTS already and that’s half the decision made. Now, when it comes to negotiation, think of it this way: they’ve already made you an offer, which means they see value in you. Your job now is to help them see even more.

For why still CTS, you could say something like: “While I do have a higher offer from HCL, I value CTS’s work culture and long-term alignment more. However, given the market and my current standing, I’d really appreciate it if CTS could revisit the offer, even a slight revision would help bridge the gap and make my decision easier."

If they ask why not HCL, you can mention concerns about micromanagement and your preference for an environment that prioritizes autonomy and trust. There's no harm in voicing your concerns but try and focus less on comparing CTS vs HCL and more on highlighting why you are worth revisiting the number for. What do you bring to the table that makes you a stronger asset than others in your bracket? Frame it around your experience, your ability to hit the ground running or how you've solved problems in past roles.

Sometimes it’s not about fighting for every rupee, it’s about showing that a slight increase is a smart investment for them, not just a demand from you.

Back it up with calm confidence. You already know what to say — just put yourself in their shoes and make it obvious why upping the offer makes sense.

As for questions, it’s hard to predict. Sometimes they won’t even ask much. But just in case, here are a few possibilities: “Why are you choosing us over a higher-paying offer?”

“Is compensation the only factor you're considering?”, “What would make you accept our offer today?”, “Have you informed the other company?”, “Are you expecting a counteroffer from them?”

Truthfully it could be none of these. You don’t need a scripted answer, just be transparent and confident. If you can communicate that you’ve thought things through and are looking for a strong long-term fit (not just a number), you’ll be fine.

Trust your instincts. You already know how to do this, now just package it well.

Now I got some confident and as you said let me be transparent with them and put more weight on my Experience instead of comparison.
