Need Advice: Financial Planning and Career Growth
Hi everyone,
I’m 27 years old and currently working as a Data Engineer with a CTC of 4.6 LPA. I have a total of 4 years and 6 months of experience, out of which 2 years and 8 months were in support, and the rest as a Data Engineer.
Right now, I don’t have any savings, and I’m the only earning member in my family. I take care of my mother, brother, and sister. My brother works on daily wages and earns around ₹8,000–₹10,000 per month.
Lately, there’s been a lot of pressure from my family and relatives asking me to build a house (2BHK) and get married soon, as well as help with my brother’s marriage. Honestly, I’m not sure how to manage all this financially.
I’ve also been trying to switch jobs to improve my salary, but so far, I’ve only received a couple of interview calls and unfortunately didn’t get selected.
I would really appreciate any advice or guidance on how to:
- Improve my financial situation and start saving.
- Plan for family responsibilities like building a house and marriage.
- Prepare effectively for job switches or career growth in the data field.
Any insights or suggestions from those who’ve been through similar situations would mean a lot.
Thank you 🙏

Do not fall for family pressure.. you can plan marriage but dont invest now in house . For you its important to have financial stability.
- Work on your skills and continue to give interviews
- Parallely start to build emergency fund .hope you have health insurance and term insurance.
- Once above things are sorted then you can actually start to invest with mutual fund
- Considering g your situation dont spend lot of money on marriage. Don't fall for family pressure.. please discuss with your partner all these things.

Been there done that.
First things first. Its time to jump. Practice interviews and get a job change ASAP. You can easily demand 100% if you are confident in your skill set. If not then build your skill set rock solid ready to deal with any adversity. First investment should always be in oneself.
Second, note down your monthly expenses. Like literally keep a diary and note down anything and everything you spend your money on ( even those 10 rs chai ). End of the month assess where your money is going. Cut down whatever you can. It can mean not eating from outside or not going for a cinema or cancelling subscription etc.
Very cold but absolute truth and unpopular opinion sometimes we need to reduce what we spend for our loved ones. If you feel the money you give them they are not spending it for their critical wants then reduce it. Unless ofcourse it is disposable money for you. Else you are enabling them not helping them.
Third, do not build a house at this current state. Everything is hyper inflated. And lets face it you are not in a state to build a house. So focus on building yourself up. Every money saved put it in a good MF. If you cant do it you can find really food fund managers. Also diversify the investments.
Fourth, building a house should only come into the picture if and only if you can use your networth as leverage to build the house. Idk why people forget the house you live in is a liability as its not generating income for you. So people take these huge loans to buy or build a house and then end up all their life repaying the loan. It aint worth it. You can use loan if you are in a good position such that the loan amount can be repaid back in 5 years time period top and emi is only 20% of your monthly income. Otherwise dont simple as that. Just check how much that emi would be if you put in an SIP.
Fifth, marriage is not just about love but there is a huge financial component. Ask yourself if need be can you support another individual with your current salary. If the answer is no then you are not ready. Love is there initially but later lack of resources do cause problems. First and foremost fing your ground then build.

Thanks. I’m currently working with SQL, Azure Data Factory (ADF), Azure Databricks (ADB), Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS), and SQL Database (SQLDB) — I’m confident in these areas. However, I’m still improving my skills in Python and PySpark.
could you please suggest how to improve on python and pyspark
