Need a reality check: Am I getting overpaid?
I’m a final year student based out of India, and am currently doing the last month of my internship at a SF based startup. As the only DevOps engineer, and being quite skilled at at (at least according to myto YoE), I was getting paid around 2 LPA per month as a part time intern for the past 6 months.
I recently got another 3 month internship offer from a foreign company, and I’m taking it since I don’t want to get stuck at remote job in India, and explore some abroad companies as well before I settle. Pay there is also quite good, but I don’t wish to take FTE there as I have to live in India only (family reasons, rural background, younger siblings and their study, etc.)
Now when I finally start my job hunt in the final days of my winter internship, what should be the pay I expect from Indian / Remote companies? Considering I was getting paid a fair amount as mentioned above even in a part time role. Or was I overpaid and I should keep my expectations low or equal to it in a Full Time Role?

@GreedyFaucet on what tech stacks did u work at the startup?

Frontend in React / Next / MUI, Backend in Python / Flask / GraphQL, and AWS setup, management and administration. Data Engineering Pipelines on Snowflake and AWS as well

That's great. I also work with Python, Flask and AWS. And also into data engineering.
Can we pls chat more? I would love to connect with you. Shall I drop my mail here?

What’s wrong in taking FTE ?

A lot of responsibility here to get my family out from rural area for my siblings studies and stuff, plus pressure from parents as well to live in India 😞

Get out when u can send them money from abroad. You can always move back later you are too young to not experience this

*LPA = lakhs per annum
LPA per month is incorrect lol.
Also 2L would be the upper limit of what you would be getting. So what @ThoseFarrow said.

Oh yeah my bad. Also it’s disappointing but it is what it is I guess 😞

Username checks out? 🫂

How did you find an american startup to intern under? Through campus or some job board?

It was through a Linkedin post

Aim for same or higher salary. But Indian companies might not match America salaries and pay according to Indian salary ranges.

That is an issue, right?

It's actually quite overpaid. Same like yours I'm in my final year and working at a US startup but as a FTE. I make around FAANG sde2 in india even more for some of them. I'll suggest take the remote job and work for some years. Later you will have an edge over salary negotiations don't miss it. Indian companies only consider FTE in most case, internship stipend won't value much and yeah Congratulations for the offer! ✌️

Thanks man 👨

Me who gets Rs 10k / month as a fresher passout 🙂
