My roommate has started smoking within the room

This roommate also happens to be my friend and has recently picked up smoking on a daily basis. How should I deal with this? I don't want him to smoke within the room, heck I want him to give up smoking. How can I?

If he is really your friend just tell him to smoke outside as you are not comfortable with the smoke and the smell, he would understand for sure. Direct communication helps.

If he is really your friend you can also pickup smoking on daily basis and give him company

Ask him/her to stop doing it in room simply. I also had a friend who smokes but he knows I don't like the smell of it so he used to avoid it in front of me.
