Mumbai Lady Manager comment over Tamilnadu resources
I recently reflected on an incident at a previous organization that bothered me. A manager once instructed the team: "When recruiting candidates from Tamil Nadu, make sure to check if their communication is actually good." The implication was clear—there was a blanket assumption that candidates from this region lack communication skills. This is a classic example of unconscious bias. Communication isn’t about an accent or where someone was born; it’s about clarity, logic, and the ability to collaborate. Tamil Nadu is a global powerhouse for tech and engineering talent. To pre-judge a candidate based on regional stereotypes doesn't just hurt the candidate—it hurts the company by limiting the talent pool. Let’s hire based on merit, not geography.
What you guys feel?

Well said, everyone cannot speak affluently as english is not native language. We need to check how they are elonorating, expalaining, understanding the problem.

👏🏼

I guess corporate communication comes under merit nowadays, it's not abt accent or never was abt accent, accent is not primary but if tht person can communicate or not is primary. No one wants to take a person who's not able to collaborate in front of a client who is pouring millions in a project. And the reason behind this bias maybe coz majority of ppl only knows two languages Mother tounge nd English and if their education upto highschool is from govt school it's more likely that they will understand but might not able to put up their thoughts as fluently as others. This could be the case with other regions as well but the majority of ppl speak 3 languages.
