Moving to Bangalore with a newborn – can we manage in ₹1L/month near HSR?
I’m 29, married, and expecting a baby this year. Currently living in hometown and spending ~₹40k/month comfortably. I’ll be moving to Bangalore (likely near HSR) next April and honestly freaking out about expenses with a newborn.
I earn ₹2.1L in hand, wife earns ₹50k but will take a year off after maternity. We’ve saved a bit –
₹12L in FD (Emergency fund)
₹23L in mutual funds
₹2.5L in NPS
₹2.8L in EPF
₹1L in PPF
80k in direct stocks
Also have,
₹1cr health cover (20 Base, 80 Super Top Up).
₹3cr term cover till 55.
I am assuming i have most of things covered at least the fundamentals, so that I don't have to worry about emergency fund or stuff like that.
Will ₹1L/month be enough for rent, daycare, groceries, baby stuff, etc., without compromising too much? Want to save/invest ₹1.1L monthly if possible.
Anyone living near HSR with a kid – how bad is the burn rate really? I will anyways switch next year and can expect a decent hike.

Reminds me of the scene where Nobita and Shizuka and their baby lives under a bridge

I'll suggest move in to Manipal county road, begur (5km from HSR) as the houses and 2bhk flats are pretty spacious and really affordable. Also it used to take me 20 minutes only to reach HSR daily from there which is fine with the amount I was usually saving!.

It completely depends on lifestyle preference. Some might say 50k is enough and for other even 5L is less

Don’t have a baby. You will get crushed with 24x7 fire fighting work? And financially too
Are you moving to Bangalore for WFO?
