Moving from SDE to Support Engineer Role at Amazon. Is It a Good Move?

Hi all, I’m currently working as a Software Development Engineer (SDE) with around 3 YoE and have received an offer for a Support Engineer role at Amazon. While the brand is obviously strong, I’m unsure about switching from a dev role to a support-focused one.

Would this move limit my long-term career growth in engineering? Or is it common to switch teams internally at Amazon after 3–6 months? I’ve heard some people transition to SDE internally... does that happen realistically?

Would appreciate honest insights from folks who've been in or around this role. Trying to weigh FAANG brand vs. role alignment. Thanks in advance!

For role change within Amazon, your manager should strongly believe you and have evidence to support that you are already doing the works at "role you want to change".
If you think you can convince your manager, go ahead.

Even If you move, your goal should be to move back to SDE in Amazon after spending a year as support engineer.

Write this query in Blind. Someone should be able to help with regards to feasibility of org change.

Don't do this, internal transition to sde from support is hard. It might be easy if u have sysDE role. You need to prove the other team Manager what work u done for to eligible to sde. Also I'm not saying it is impossible but lot of people consider this transition but it is very low.
