Mom cried

I got a decent hike and better job/brand. My current role is wfh until they call, but new role is in Mumbai.

Initially I was not sure had a convo with parents whether to take it or not. After discussing all this, finally when I said I'm gonna accept my mom broke and started crying. (Cause I'll leave for mum then)

In dilemma what to do? Not sure if right forum to ask

She had her bypass surgery last year

Story of my life. Had an offer from Mumbai. Good enough hike and a profitable company. Resigned from my previous job. Last day passed by.
My father had passed away due to covid and she would be alone when i left. A day before i was going to leave, mom went into shock.
Had to reject the Mum offer and so I am now jobless, looking for opportunities near hometown.

Take your mom along with you. Mumbai is nice place there is no language problem. But cost of living is high. What is your office location check any flat near to office

Take her along to Mumbai. Live for a few months together and see how she settles down there

Go for the role in Mumbai. Let her know that you are going so that she can reunite with you in Mumbai.

When you raise yourself, you raise your family as well. She will understand and support you.

Go to Mumbai, settle down with a flat, call her to your place.

Taking your parents to a new city isn’t as obvious as it looks. My mom feels very out of place in cities and it’s very hard to find people she can relate to. Taking someone from NCR for example to Bangalore is very hard especially for parents. I have friends but what about them.
You might not even find people of same age speaking the same language. And I do want to take care of her

Now this is a post that ought to have been on LinkedIn.

It would be fun to watch hustle bros like Deepinder and Shantanu give gyaan like 'Moms are important but hustle is importanter'.

Negotiate for a hybrid mode where you are allowed to work from your city and visit the office certain days a month.
It's nearly impossible to convince parents to come along to a new city and it's difficult for them as well. Look out for a remote option in worst case

Was in a similar situation last year, then I asked my parents to shift with me

This is what I felt recently. I had better offers from Bangalore and Hyderabad but I have recently joined a company in NCR. This is because my single mother lives in Jaipur and she did not want to move to Bangalore since everything is different for her over there. No friends, relatives and no one to talk to while I’m away in the office. This is why I opted for NCR and a hybrid model so that I can work for 2 days from the office and the rest from home.

No matter how smart or brilliant one may be in their line of work, I’ve realised that these kind of decisions where one has to make a trade off are extremely difficult to navigate.

Its not black and white when it comes to this and it is essential that we understand how our parents, wife or children will be affected by our decisions even if it means to let go of, in your case, a decent ‘hike’

Buddy, this is really hard. But it's a choice you have to make.....good luck.
