Tbh it's a good idea. Idk what other people here are cribbing about.

I am sure this would have clauses like having to prove one was laid off vs resigned. I don’t know if companies offer that

But wouldn't someone who knows impending layoff, just take this and start gaming the system? Is there a cool off period?

This is good. Seen this type of insurance through employment unions in the Nordics and it's a great safety net.
