They are playing games with the people, first thing first, they acquired lots of companies in recent times and now they have patents so they can fire those employees, for Microsoft acquired employees are just like a garbage. And also there is huge competition inside Microsoft everyone have to perform exceptionally to get promoted, if you don't you will be out from that race.
