Microsoft India - Worst Situation Underway

Microsoft has lost all respect from me today. Guys please spread the word so that all come to know reality.

I am writing this post on behalf of my friend who is still in bad mood having mental trauma.

Yesterday my friend from Microsoft was let go from his job in India. He was being pressurised to write relieving letter saying he was quitting at his own will and that the HR apparently said if he didn't write the email in next half or 1 hour he won't be getting any severance or benefits by Microsoft India.

Wait..who does this to an employee? He was so tensed yesterday that he is leaving for his hometown in few days, he doest want to do any job for some time, he was literally crying.

He said the ones who didnt got laid off have lost the will to work. His friends who got fired are crying as it was least expected from Microsoft.

imo even amazon and sf handled the indian layoffs in a better way than Microsoft.

Other then that Microsoft peeps are not allowed to write anything rubbish on social media. You can yourself see 3 rounds of layoff have happened in India and you will rarelly see any post yet on LinkedIn.

Just imagine to what extent these firms are going to save their image. 😵‍💫🥺

msft used to have best people culture but now its something unimaginable😣

Sorry no sympathy. The severance package is awesome, they will be fine.

Think about all the folks getting fired from smaller tech firms/startups with little to zero severance who get zero attention.

Don't tie your identity with a career in big tech.

Same, I think big tech companies pay better severance package and would also attract more opportunities in the long run. As compared to the ones laid off from small tech companies.

Many companies did silent layoff with no severance package. But I agree the way situation is being handled is unacceptable.

Everyone should be prepared.
Keep 6 months to 12 months of emergency funds.
Company is not family to cry or be happy If they fire, just FO and leave . Search for new job immediately
No emotional attachments should be made with company. Be it FAANG or low level startups or service based companies
He probably got good severance package. No need to cry like cry baby and should move on.

People who are commenting here that he shouldn't be a cry baby and shouldn't be so attached with a company and blah blah, they should first understand that when this kind of situation arises, your entire future plans flash infront of your eyes and now since you have to put a little (God knows for how long) brake on it, they just can't process it at that time.

People process things at a different level. Even though they will get good severance package, but that's not 'Kuber ka kazaana'. They get bogged down at that time that they will AGAIN have to go through all the hardship to land a job, and that too at this situation.

Maybe you are a brainiac, but everyone is not like that.

We are humans, we have common sense (Atleast some people), we should motivate and help others, instead of being such a 'So called Realist'. 🤘🏻🤙🏻

Feel big tech folks get a disproportionate amount of admiration and sympathy.

Personally rather support those without privilege and golden parashutes.

@Ceoincognito: Be it whoever, irrespective of big tech MNC or not, we should support others. We should be able to gauge based on how that person puts up their post/feelings. If it's more centric towards their love to their 'Once Badge of Honour' workplace, then think and do whatever is necessary.

But not everyone is like that.

Atleast they are getting severance pay. Small techs are not even thinking of giving. Rest With the tag of big tech like MS he will get interview calls easily. Trauma is for small tech startups.

This. The market is currently flooded with ex-FAANG engineers and so called "influencers " create sheets and referral programs for these folks only. I don't doubt my skills as an engineer but getting interview calls has become really difficult because every HR is trying to poach these guys.

Sorry about him getting laid off, but can someone explain this one hour thing? I am not sure about legality of this stuff, can they do that?

SillyPanda
SillyPanda

Not a lawyer, but why would it be illegal? I mean, they're firing you, so they're technically faking your resignation. They're giving you a better way out. Not sure though.

ZestyKoala
ZestyKoala

Not sure if illegal is the right word. And I am only talking about one hour here, that seems completely unrealistic demand to not pay possibly 2-4 months of pay. High-pressure sales tactics are atleast considered immoral but again not sure about legality.

Voluntary resignation or no notice period pay has been done by byjus as well.

I think BYJU's did voluntary resignation since a layoff would look bad on people's resumes. Heard someone say this

DerpyBurrito

That's the reason they gave to people but I think the real reason was so that they don't have to pay severance.

The severance cant be denied. Secondly the local culture is decided by the CEO Anant Maheswari. Total Narcissistic pig

Quiet and random layoff for sure reflect poorly on the company. In good times, same company will be very good to their employees. Maybe Amazon is exception. Anyway, point is that don’t take it personally and always look out for yourself even if things are rosy
