Mentioning impact / metrics on projects in the resume.

I’ve worked on projects for clients where we no metrics were measured and hence no impact was recoreded. I realise it’s my mistake as it’s my responsibility to request for the data.

I’m working on my resume and portfolio currently. When I look at all the portfolios and resumes online - metrics are mentioned. Even recruiters demand metrics to be shown in the resume and portfolio.

How do I showcase the impact or results when it wasn’t recorded? Please don’t tell me I need to lie / fake it in the resume / portfolio.

How do I navigate through this situation?

I believe impact always exists because design in nature is transformative. The underlying question in their ask is - do you know how to navigate stakeholders? Ambiguous situations? And ROI of design you did?

The answer is not necessarily just business numbers (it does help if you have them), but what design process you introduced - what was the impact of it. What collaboration your facilitated - what does the before and after look like.

Quantification of impact has to be bigger than business numbers, otherwise whats the difference between a PM and a designer?

Also, if you have good relationship with the client, it would be good to reach back and ask for some non-confidential information

I can reason out on every design decision I’ve taken both in business and user’s perspective. In addition to this, I can also mention the metrics that can be considered to determine the change after the implementation of new designs I’ve worked on.

What I lack to show is numbers. What I lack is quantative data where as I can quote the feedback from the users during usability testing. Their feedback was overall positive. I can mention the areas of pitfalls in my design and how I tried fixing it.

Will this data suffice? What concerns me is my resume not getting shortlisted due to lack of numbers mentioning the impact.

Is my concern rational ? Or am I overthinking about it?
