Maybe a stupid question but why would he call me sir?

This is the CEO of a tech firm. Had a discussion & told me he'd reach out for further updates. After 2 weeks, i reached out twice & he wrote this.

Just wondering why would he call me sir? Is this him mocking me or was the interview a joke to him or am i just thinking too much?

Bit of an old habit, i mean he is the ceo so i thought it'd be a sign of respect

No capitalization clearly means disrespect. Assert dominance and reply with escalating salutations. Start with Lord, then your highness, then your majesty and finally mein fuhrer.

Some people habitually call others sir or madam, don't take it too seriously.

Atleast response has more words than the question
🥴 but yes, why address sir - so maybe they mirrored sir with sir

Definitely written in a sarcastic uncaring fashion imo. Probably done to simply throw you off given you had been following up.

I say good riddance, because if a founder/CEO doesn't have the right decorum to address you after rejection, they would have not valued you even if you were hired!

The best founders I've met have been highly cordial and empathic while rejecting, and they keep doors open because you never know how you cross paths again as you move along in the journey. They respect following up because it shows intent.

So take it as it is, and if this fuels you definitely take it up and then charge forward with better options man! More power to you

I think it's a way of showing respect while giving a bad news. Why should you feel offended for being called 'sir'?

As @Spicymango9867 mentioned, when someone much older/working in leadership position calls a junior person, sir, its more of a sarcastic thing than respect

Dude this is definitely said in the right intention, he could have just as easily blocked you and that would have been the end of it. The most senior and humble folks I've met won't stand to being called Sir, and if I did it repeatedly out of habit, they said they'll start calling me Sir to throw me off.
