Marketing has become (brain)dead. This is why I ditched it after almost a decade.
"Hello anon, did you know you could do a better job at marketing? Let us help you do that" is something i get to read in my LinkedIn messages every damn month. Different variations, same shit.
They fail to see the basic fact that our marketing is already on point, which is why they know of me and approached me in the first place. They don't even research their clients well, just start spamming people.
Marketing sweat shops are dime a dozen these days. They're all racing each other to the bottom with prices or quality or both.
Every second or third person is a marketer in India, yet doesn't know how to market themselves except for dumb cold calls and boring ass sms/whatsapp messages/emails. SaaS sellers are a close second place, reaching out to you without even knowing your revenue scale or tech stack. Bas AWS services le lo ji, stak stuk dekh lenge.
Prospect didn't respond to LinkedIn message? Let's try WhatsApp, email and calls on the same day. Way to drive a customer away 👏👏
Marketing itself has transformed into an ads only ecosystem. Pay for ads, get orders. No ads, no orders. Performance marketing is all there is now, which is also a scam. Even if you buy ads, you don't really know if they're being served to a relevant human or just online bots that fake activity.
Every algo change can potentially shut your business entirely and ban you permanently without reason or explanation. So much for democratization of tech.
Even ecommerce and quick commerce platforms are guilty of promoting their own ad platforms. Their economics are unsustainable for their core business and they can't survive without selling ads to listed vendors.
What about organic reach? LOL
It's ironic that marketing is dying at the hands of so-called social media marketing and delivery platforms. Or maybe it's poetic. Maybe even darwinian, idk.
What I do know is marketing as a domain is saturated, always in flux, and pretty lame overall when it comes to the actual work and deliverables.
AI is already taking over post design as well as content. Only a matter of time before marketing itself becomes redundant possibly.
Weird future in sure tbh.
