The Naruto series has many side characters with a better storyline than the main MC.
Kakashi Hatake (The copy Ninja) lost his father when he was a kid. You can even tell that the village pushes his father to suicide. After that when I graduated from school and became a genin. He found another 3 people who he cared about.
He lost his best friend Obito when in the war and even thing Obito's eyes he couldn't save Rin and lost her too. You could say the shinobi system, the war what caused him pain.
After that, his teacher Minato died protecting Leaf Village from the nine-tail fox.
After all these losses he could turn around the shinobi system and become someone like Nagato (pain).
But I think even in his greatest pain he believes in the ideals of obito and minato. He always thinks that things will change and people will care and understand each other.
