LWD Dilemma - Need Your Thoughts

Hey everyone,

I need to finalize my Last Working Day (LWD) by EOD today and I have been given two options, but I’m stuck between them.

Option 1: Flexible LWD I can set my LWD either today, or sometime in the last week of December, or even any day up to the notice period (January 13th). This gives me flexibility to join any company based on when they offer me a position. The risk is if I join later than my LWD, I’m not sure if it’ll be seen as a gap.

Option 2: Garden Leave I’d be inactive in the system, and my LWD would officially be as per the notice (January 13th). The catch is I can’t join any company before January 13th.

Key Points for Both:

  • Financials are covered, I get full notice pay.
  • Once I choose, I can’t change the date.
  • The job hunt stays active regardless of the choice.

Context: I’ve got a couple of companies in the pipeline, but not sure how they’ll turn out, whether they’ll offer more money, or if they’ll even work out. Not interested in staying at my current company— low pay and position. I want stability, ideally for the next 3-4 years. Coz the instability in my profile (4 companies in 4 years) is getting me rejected by product companies. It seems like services companies might be easier to survive in for now. I also don’t want to work for less money—it doesn’t make sense. I’m aware work-life balance and growth might come with some luck.

Would love to hear thoughts and any advice on which option to go with. Thanks!

Go for option 2, Don't stop giving interviews until Jan 13th, Get the offer letters from those companies you got selected and choose the best one based on salary, tech stack, work culture etc...

Don't worry about that gap which comes in between when you are joining a company, it is not treated as a gap, I took 10 days of gap after the notice period completion before joining a new company so that I can refresh.

Fair enough. So you don't recommend joining any company immediately. I have only one offer right now and I feel chances of that getting revoked is less as they have more requirements of engineers. Just that I don't want to risk it. okay, noted. Thanks!

@PoanSapdi HR team is super annoying! Everytime they schedule a meeting, tell new things and mark previously said invalid. Now they are saying Garden leave is not applicable. And this is happening when I spent the entire 24 hours to make that decision. Not sure how much I push back they will now let me take garden leave or push for LWD as 13th jan. Disabled my email account twice so far and enabled only after reporting.

Below is what they sent : "As discussed today, we can have your LWD changed to an earlier date (next week) and your PF will be considered till your LWD. You will receive a relieving letter mentioning the same date. [This is being told since I had raised the concern of PF getting credited by 2 companies / dual employment if I joined any company before 13th jan]

You will get severance pay for remaining days until 13th January 2025. Hope this clarifies your doubt.

Please let us know if we can go ahead with the LWD as of 17th December 2024."

Not sure what do I do. Thoughts?
