LTI cutting down salary while on bench??

I have a friend in LTIMindtree, who says that he is getting less salary since the period he is on bench. Let's assume, his current in hand was 40k, and since he is on bench from 2months he is getting 7k pm in hand . Is this true? Just wanna know the reality as one of my cousin is placed in LTI and is afraid of joining it due to this reason.
