Looking to move to a city, temporarily. Suggestions?

I work remotely and currently based in popular tier 2 city. Its great here, but I live with my parents and there's lots of redevelopment going on around the place we live, which causes frequent electricity and network disruptions, atleast for the next year or so.

I've previous lived in Bangalore and it was meh.

I'm reconsidering moving to another city temporarily, my options are Bangalore, or pune.

But I'm open to other suggestions.

What are your thoughts, should I stay put or actually move?

Moving out will be a hassle, better invest in a UPS. It's costly but not as much as moving out.

But if you just want to move for a vibe change, pune can be a good option.

We already have inverters setup for majority of the house so that's not an issue. Internet getting cut is out of our control, since the fiber cables get cut due to the bridgework.

Vibe change is what I'm looking at I guess to be fair. The summer is also getting to me here

Ah! I see.

Summer disturbs you toh stay away from Hyderabad, you won't survive without an AC.

You can try so hill side area in pune. I suggest getting out of your home if you need a vibe change, don't just supress your wants.

You can try Hyderabad also, it's cheaper compared to Bangalore less traffic, more connectivity. Lots of options for food and mainly major companies are moving to Hyderabad.

What's the social life like here? Night life for someone single and looking to meet new people? How are the locals? Just trying to get an idea of the place

Yes, I second this. Chandigarh is a cool place, you can just wake up on weekend and head off to hills and come back the next day. City too is high end with all the modern amenities. And there are parks all around. Chandigarh is likely the best city of India, in terms of overall facilities, law&order, modernity, healthcare etc

Who moves to a different city just because they don't get proper electricity at home. I guess your company is giving you too much money. Get an inverter. There is no way to downvote a post else I would do it.

@SillyLink puts it well. We're just conditioned find problems in the happiest state. It's also what my ex told me.

Anyway, to answer your question - I need a change in scenery like I mentioned earlier, so maybe I'm finding problems with every little thing going on around me and using that as an excuse.

Pune. As someone who lives in BLR, I won't outrightly recommend this city unless you have a good social circle here or crave for communal activities. From a purely objective POV Pune does seem like the better city (i travel there every quarter for work, so limited experience but still some data points) - roads seem better, locals seem relatively chiller, rent is cheaper, and there is some semblance of nature around you with the tekdis, and nice hills an hour or so away from the city (as mentioned to me by friends who have lived in Pune for a while). I've stuck to BLR mostly because of having a huge social circle here, better job opportunities, and the weather 10/12 months a year (apparently only slightly better than Pune is what I'm told), and the communal activities (run clubs, park visits, coffee tasting workshops and what not). Hope this helps, have a great next year or so in whichever city you pick!

Also just to ease your decision making - I don't think you can go too wrong with either of these cities, both will have some niche things to offer and you should have a good time either way! I've liked both cities pretty much equally. And as someone else mentioned in the comments Hyd is also a great option. Good infra, less traffic, decent rent prices - just slightly hotter than BLR if that's a concern for you.

Thanks, probably one of the more insightful answers here. Having lived in b'lore for a while, i definitely agree with the points you made. I'm quite inclined to go back, but what's daunting is going through the whole appartment hunting phase again. However, I'm much more familiar with the city and have a decent social circle there as well.

I've visited pune quite a few times as well, and a friend of mine living there tells me appartments are cheaper (fully furnished) and more readily available. However, I'm not as familiar with the city, so starting here, will be completely from the ground up

So that's where I'm at, at the moment

Pune, take some hillview apartment on rent and enjoy๐Ÿ˜„

That sounds tempting. Any areas in particular i can check out? What's the rent like for a place like that?

Go to a non tech city. You can save some money and live you one year like a vacation. Rent out a place in a city that's not expensive.

Not a single person is voting for Bangalore. Bangalore used to be the best place to live around 10 years back.

True, but I also think alot of grapevine is anti Bangalore lol

It's a nice place, has it's perks. But sometimes to cons outweigh them

I live in Pune and your experience will vary based on where you choose to live within Pune.

The AQI is getting pretty bad and the traffic situation is only downhill from here. If you choose to live here, stay close to the metro line. But the roads are pretty bad and there is garbage and littering everywhere.

I have lived for sometime in Navi Mumbai, I find it a little better than here.

Was in Navi Mumbai last month, it was actually really nice. Did not expect that at all
