Looking to build for elderly !

Hello All,

I have been thinking about starting up and one segment close to my heart is doing something for elderly. It makes sense, Indian elderly population in increasing at fast pace from 13cr elderly today to 21cr by 2030 or so. No one has come out to he a winner for this segment yet.

What I want to do?

All things for elderly at one place eventually starting with:

  • MMT model for elderly : You can find living spaces Ratings, listing by filters. We will earn by referring customers : Recurring income. There exist nothing today for people to discover living spaces for elderly. 50k+ people search for old age home near me on monthly basis in India.

Any thoughts ?

Primus recently raised $20mm, does something similar. Community of elders.

Genwise raised around $4mm, does something around consumer angle.

Do check them out. It’s an interesting space. And something defn can be built.

Yeah genwise has built a good product. My ideas is to list all the facilities and communities at one place. So primus’s facilities will be listed on my platform

Why random meanness? Old age living facilities are a legit need for the society and a legit business opportunity.

I have been thinking in similar terms seeing my parents they do not want to open any app which is complex .
I want to build a app for them which has everything like cab booking, food ordering, book train tickets/flight and most importantly give everything in one membership which has a special feature like concierge (where they can call inquire and book things).
The UI needs to be as simple as possible removing everything.

I agree. Do you want to connect and chat on this ?

Why not just a voice / chat based interface?

It’s an interesting space . Both in metro cities and Tier 1/2 cities , elderly parents find it difficult and lonely living in Appartments . You can start by creating elderly groups and adding some value added services - access to living homes , house helps , care givers , engagement activities etc. listing of elderly homes alone might not be scalable . Many of the elderly homes are very costly . The ones which are cheap are not properly maintained obviously . That’s my viewpoint . All the best . It very courageous of you to take a step in this field as well as share in public for candid feedback . Also ,start by connecting to such families and check what problems they are facing rn

Very wrong way to build business. Talk to 100 senior citizens and documents their pain points and find the a way to solve. Do things that don't scale first

Yes obviously will do that, I just put it out here to see what people feel about it

Great sector to build. India will some day have 800 million ‘elderly’

with most people having one to zero kids, and most city kids settling abroad and most village youth settling in cities, i think this is going to be a huge space in next few decades in India, especially around elderly care , elderly support and elderly housing. but simply building an app around this might not be the solution. There needs to be investment and change in almost all aspects to that market in terms of caregivers, cost, infrastructure, availability of immediate medical support etc and I believe the government would need to take this part seriously as well.
