I was working as a Data Engineer at Wells Fargo. Great brand name, decent job, but honestly — the pace was slow and the tech stack felt like it was stuck in the past.
So when I got an opportunity with a US-based finance startup — remote work, modern stack, steep learning curve, and a good hike — I took the leap.
The plan was simple: learn fast, grow my career, spend more time with family, and build a healthier lifestyle.
But things didn’t go the way I imagined.
• My Wells manager even asked me to reconsider my resignation, but I stayed firm because I truly wanted a change.
• Just when I was wrapping up my notice period, the startup dropped a bomb: “We’ve decided to cancel your contract. It’s final.”
Now I’m left in the worst spot — I can’t go back to Wells (too late) and I don’t have the new role either.
It feels like I’m stuck between two doors that slammed shut at the same time.
I’m sharing this because I honestly don’t know what’s next. My notice is over, I’m officially jobless, and I need to find interviews ASAP.
If anyone in my network knows about Data Engineer openings (3 years exp | Python | ETL | GCP | Snowflake | Databricks) — please reach out. Any lead, referral, or even guidance would mean a lot.
Sometimes you win by taking risks. Sometimes you get burned. I guess this time it’s the second one. But I’m not quitting.
PS: Honestly, even writing this post was hard , had to lean on ChatGPT to put my messy thoughts into words.
