Life feels hopeless at just 24 years of age

As a 24-year-old working at TCS, I feel like I’m stuck in a never-ending cycle of frustration.

Right from the training phase, the focus on irrelevant skills made me realize they do not value our potential.

It's disheartening when your hard work is overshadowed by inflexible management and endless bureaucracy. The pressure to work long hours with little recognition is suffocating; not even getting weekends properly, while my friends are out there chillign!

I often hear threats from management about my job security if I don't comply with their demands. It's not a supportive environment where freshers can learn and grow; instead, we are often treated like throwable resources.

My college friends who joined more innovative companies are thriving while I feel trapped in this toxic culture. If this is what the corporate world looks like, I’d rather explore options elsewhere than waste my youth here!

I totally understand where you are coming from, but sometimes in life you gotta take high risks and be prepared for whatever may come. If you stay like this very soon you’ll reach your 30s with not much money neither job satisfaction.

My advice for massive risk.

  1. Have 6 months expense worth of savings if you don’t have it take loan for 6 months worth of expenses. When you’ll have money in the bank you’ll be more confident in taking that risk.

  2. take all of remaining leaves altogether in one go, take break from work and study study and just study don’t apply for jobs in that leave just study.

What to study?

Study DSA - array, strings, linked list, stacks, queues, searching, sorting, trees.

Basics of javascript, then learn basics of react. Make a wonderful resume based on these 3 skills.

  1. as soon as your leaves get over, just fucking resign. In notice period anyways you can’t take leaves so it’ll be worth it. Resign with or without offer letter 3 months is a long long time trust me.

  2. if you get a job in those 3 months then all good, pay your EMIs with those 3 months salary if you get a job then repaying loan won’t be a big issue and you will be out of this hell whole. If you don’t get jobs in those 4 months (1 months leave + 3 months notice period) then you pack your bags and go home straight, you will already have 6 month runaway. Study like crazy and get a job. Support yourself through your savings or loan money.

  3. this plan will give you 9-10 months of study time and to crack a job, buddy if you can’t crack a job in 10 months then nobody can save you. It all depends on you. Most likely if you study properly in 1st month and apply like crazy you’ll get offer before your LWD.

I did the same myself, got 2 offer within 1st month of leave itself. So I’m walking the talk.

All the best to you, Godspeed

Always remember if you don’t like something and don’t do anything about it you’ll just end up whining and crying. Go out there, just do it, change your life, inspire others.

Rooting for you.

It is not too late for you. For a 3 YOE , the expectation is not much.

Spend 3 to 6 months to learn a technology (with handson ) you are comfortable with and leave TCS.

TCS gives you access to Udemy, linkedinlearning, Oreilly. There are plenty of resources.

If people who stayed here for 5 10 years can attend interviews and leave the company , you too can. You just have to put efforts.

At 24, you should not worry about job security. Be aggressive, don’t like the work you are doing, ask for roll off, upskill on your own, give interviews outside only for technology you want to work on and switch. If you are afraid that TCS won’t be your retirement company, well you shouldn’t worry about what your retirement company should be at this age. This should be your age to give your all to grow and be at a place that you want and then reap the benefits of it 10-15 years later.

staying at any company more than 2 years shows you have a problem . either you are in the loop or you were lazy. period .....still there is time ....learn a new skill with edge and you could reverse the damage this shit hole has done to you.

U r just 24 year old, people usually start job around 25 . Dont get hopeless, me and other Frnd’s get out at age of 28 starting new tech from scratch. The best plan is just let the job keep going as it is. Spend 3 4 hr in weekend strict study and daily 30 40min , plan for at-least 4 to 6 month , dnt be in hurry . Take your time in selecting the tech which you want to go for , then start

I have changed my role every 2-3 years learning new tech and being a married woman with a child I have lots of other responsibilities also. When I can do it u too can. Just setup strictest routine for studies and learning new skills come what may no fallout for 2-3 months u ll be able to get out. Be hopeful and be hardworking it’s difficult but not impossible

I sincerely advise you to switch if you want to thrive. There is no growth in TCS. Unfortunately, nobody advised me that one should join TCS in late 40s and enjoy rest of working life with peace ( with no growth, but it won't matter much at that time.)

I can completely resonate with you. I am 25 and having around 3 Yr exp . Joined TcS as fresher. From starting I am working in same project . My role also require me to work on weekends and there is no compensation for this. I am in support role. I want to switch my domain. I would like to go with data fileds. Currently exploring it so that I can choose suitable one for me. But trust me we have to get out of this . All below comments are really encouraging. Thank you all for taking time and commenting here to motivate us🙏
