Life after layoff
Hi GWiners,
Got laid-off recently from my job and while it is frustrating I have another thought on my mind that is only confusing me even more.
I’m stuck between whether I should take this exit and take a break for about a year where I try my hand at building my passion project to see if I actually takes off. If I do see good sustainable results with it, the plan was to invest in it full time. If this did not work out as planned for some reason, then the thought was to come back to the job market and look for a job.
As simple as it sounds this question has left in splits. After talking to a few folks, I got the input that the job market as such is bad and if I end up taking the career break and then trying after 1year or even 3 months I may be put up in the back seat by recruiters because of my gap. Regardless of what reasoning I give the career gap will be difficult to justify is the input I’ve gotten.
So I’m turning to all of you for input and feedback on what you think the right path forward should be. Right now I have 6 months worth of runway cap and have dependents in my family.
Is the career gap and following my passion project a risk worth taking?
