Let me tell you a secret

Spoiler: This one’s a wild ride.

So picture this — you're a product manager grinding through research, writing PRDs, coordinating with design, tech, QA, marketing, and still finding time to argue over font size on a login screen. Normal day, right?

Now here’s the twist: My Head of Product — the man who reviews our work, sets the roadmap, and talks about “north stars” without knowing north star like a TEDx speaker — has never written a PRD in his entire life. Not once. Not even a bullet-point version on a sticky note.

No product role, no startup hustle, no exposure to planning, strategy, or even building a wireframe on a napkin. Heck, I wouldn’t be surprised if he thinks Jira is an HR policy.

You want the real kicker? Last quarter, in a roadmap review meeting, he asked if “QA happens before or after the app goes live.” I thought he was joking. He wasn’t.

But hey — he talks confidently, uses phrases like “synergize value streams,” and replies to emails within 3 minutes. So apparently, that’s enough to get you the Head of Product role these days.

Meanwhile, those of us who’ve actually shipped features, built MVPs, fought production bugs at 2 AM — we just sit in silence, pretending this isn’t the corporate version of “Emperor’s New Clothes.”

Makes me wonder if I’m doing too much. Maybe ignorance really is the ultimate product strategy.
