Leave high paying job & start my own company? No desire to work, only motivated if working on insanely hard high risk high return things.

Unless I'm preparing for interviews or figthing my life to avoid layoff, I'm not motivated. When my ass is on fire however, I can work like a maniac for a few months (I actually have a pip -> promo story in my career). Otherwise, I don't even feel like turning on my PC, almost feel like a druggie, barely existing. I've no life outside of computers & I don't want to have a life outside of it either.

I see the Indian govt. has started giving good funds to AI/deep tech startups. I work very closely with AI (my work is more on infra side, but needs an understanding of LLMs) & I do see some areas which will definitely have demand.

I've this urge to put down my papers, force myself to be in a do or die scenario & start working.

It might sound romantic, but will probably be stupid. I'm in late 20s, my parents depend on me, health insurance & all etc. Also, arranged marriage search is on.

I did the math, right now my take home income is around 3L/month post tax, I need at least 1L/month for rent, insurance, minor investments & a bit of buffer cash.

Anybody left their high paying job & started something of their own? How did it turn out?

At what stage should I take the leap of faith?

I need a purpose in life. I'll lose my mind out of boredom at this rate.

Your problem is discipline. Discipline is hard which you are consciously choosing not to master. Motivation is just a loaded term.

Motivations don't build great things. Discipline does.

I think you need to wait till you achieve financial independence, just a high paying job won't do... Maybe work your ass off till 35 yo, and then try something if you are pretty well financially. If you leave this 3L/month job, your "value" will go down in arrange marriage and also put mental pressure on old aged parents too. P.S. I have a similar situation Maybe search for a gf while you are still young and go for love marriage, find something outside work :)
Good luck

But when I'm 35, I'll have a family.
Don't have the time or energy or desire to get a gf. I'm extremely lethargic unless my ass is on fire.
Isn't it possible to grind for 6 months & then get some good investment?

What are you doing given that you're in a similar situation?

Buy a piece of land outside the city, preferably in a peaceful and safe village. Build a small farmhouse — something that gives life a purpose beyond the routine. So that whenever you get free time, you can go there with your parents and unwind.

Before joining the IT industry, I had started my own venture. But when COVID hit, I switched to IT for stability.

Interestingly, it was during those startup days that I truly learned what matters in life: a farmhouse, a few animals, some greenery, and a simple BBQ setup. That’s all you really need to feel fulfilled.

The problem is that we relied on desperation to get us into the job rather than choosing to be in it, and when the desperation of the job faded we saw that we hated the job. It has now become a cycle where you are only motivated when the situation gets really bad. And time flies by and we have no idea of what we want to do.
I am saying this because I am in the same boat. My suggestion is to watch this video, it helped me a bit - https://youtu.be/Vn0yE_1ezWQ?si=KJAPIloI6qSa7gVc

Go to your general physician and get the blood work done. Check if you have any health issues . If you don’t have any thing join a martial arts class and gym . It will give you enough motivation to open the laptop . If you ever feel you don’t like to work look at Rajnikanth even at 75 he’s working hard . He has property worth more than 500 c and still he does one movie a year . I always get my motivation to get up to work seeing him . Gym and martial arts will give you happy harmonnes

Go to a bank, withdraw the equivalent of your monthly salary and then take the money home. Look at it for some time. Let it be visible to you, let it be there when you cross the room.

You'll suddenly gain motivation.

A very similar story with mine when growth as a software architect stagnated, we started something of our own and looking for head of engineering role. We are at initial stage and working with a go big or go home attitude. Lmk if you are interested.

I did take a risk in my early twenties and your case is still better, firstly check your blood for low iron and b12 deficiency. Then if they are normal, you sir are in the right stage for a startup founder, but not everyone is cut out to be a founder and you can not know unless you try.

If a few years off career and low or no income is what you can risk, please heed no advice and jump into startups.

But please check your iron and b12 levels, if you are vegetarian highly likely your lack of enthusiasm is because of that, though non vegetarians also suffer from the same if their gut is not absorbing iron and b12.

Could you share a video or website about your iron and b12 analogy? Like what stream of science it’s coming from

GroovyNarwhal

What do you mean by analogy, I did not give any, it is a known fact that low iron and b12 lead to low interest in doing things and brain is always goggy
