Trending @Infosys; Lead Consultant vs Project Manager
I have joined as Lead Consultant last year, and I want to pursue in program level. Will my career grow in program level as a consultant ? Or shud I change my role as Project Manager.
By the way both are JL - 6B

Not very clear when you say you want to grow at program level. If you mean you want manage large projects / programs then role doesn’t matter . Any JL6B can do it. LCON is just same role in specialized horizontal units like DCG, DNA etc. Many time to match salary expectations some folks are taken in consultant role instead of management role. But what you do in reality will not be based on this role. You can talk to your DM and try to get the type of work you want to do. About growth - earlier jl6b to Jl6a was considered a progression and was time bound 3-4 years. Though technically it’s still a progression but practically it’s treated as a promotion and is taking way longer. So unless you are bringing in revenues , managing large programs , running large ops, winning RFPs this progression has become very difficult if you only donprojec level work. Since Jl6a to JL7 is even more difficult, the gap in experience between Jl6a and new JL6B is 6-7 years. So pretty much they become your managers even though you are both JL6. So try to make sure you more visible to your JL7 , or your JL6A manager is high growth potential guy who will soon become JL7. Else your progression will be stuck for ever.

@MediumGauge7 thanks so much for so many info in the topic! I got what I wanted .. thanks again

You can’t change role; based on the project or by your manager it will be changed. I don’t think there will be much difference. Ex: if someone coming from testing unit to security unity role will be changed from test engineer to technical analyst.

Thanks for the input.

Consultancy stream is different from delivery management stream. You can pursue growth in consultancy stream as principal consultant and industry principal as a better option.
