Layoffs now what

I am working as director of data science in 24x7 games. , i was laid off , i have 17 years of experience , i am devastated, i want to know what skills will make me layoff proof , should i learn system design and move into engineering , or should i join a service as data science practice head or sales , or should i become head if product , i am confused , i am not getting calls, i want stability
