There is no formal criteria. Obviously you need yo have completed a year for the manager to even think of considering you . But more than that it’s luck and your perceived importance in the project by onshore client. Getting an on-site for a project where you are not working is a long shot and will primarily depend on the skill set you command and it’s rarity. With offshore folks elite tally working till midnight there practically is no need for onshore !!! And it’s coming down drastically. Whatever little is being filled by foreign citizens to protectionist polices of major countries like US
