Trending @HCL; Laptop and bag checking

I would like to know whether it is an official policy to check the serial number and inspect employee bags on a daily basis. Recently, I have experienced instances where the security personnel have insisted on opening every single compartment of my backpack, often in a rather discourteous manner.

This level of scrutiny feels excessive and raises concerns about personal privacy. I would like to understand the rationale behind such detailed inspections and whether employees are permitted to carry personal belongings without having them thoroughly examined each day.

Additionally, I would appreciate guidance on whether it is within my rights to decline opening my bag, especially when the request is made in a disrespectful manner.

you want to complain about the behaviour of the staff that is very much acceptable but it is your responsibility to allow them check your bag as it is a concern of security, if anything goes missing or worst case someone brings firearms they are gonna ask the security personnel why they didn't check it on counter, so be a little cooperative but if you see staff behave unreasonably rude then you can write a complaint about the specific personal

I agree, be polite and also expect the same. However, I've worked with several orgs in the past, none of them have this type of security checks policy. I've noticed recently in a new building, stepping inside cafe and coming out - bags are checked. It's just too much.
If people are stealing laptops, should see how often it happens and termination/prosecution rules should be implemented.
1 incident in an year shouldn't require to trouble employees on a daily basis that too multiple times.

It's a necessity because there have been instances of laptops being stolen from office premises, I was also quite irritated by it so I have started keeping my laptop in office itself, I lock it in the drawer.

I worked in previous organisations. Nowhere are the policies to check the bags. But at HCLTech, we have to check the bags in the reception and outside the ODC. Also, they check with a handheld metal detector. Sometimes, we feel like are we terrorists? It's a frustrating thing.

Laptop theft and carrying any restricted items (explosives) is the main reason behind checking the bags I think, but as far as with me always they request me to open the zip and just peep into it , never asked to open things inside the bag

Which location ate you talking about? I have never faced such issues and no matter whether its a women or male staff checking they have always been respectful.

I don't know about policy and other stuff but when maids exit and enter to our society security personnel check what they are carrying in and out. If anything provided by residents need to give a slip written with falt number and sign so that they can exit by showing that I don't feel much difference with us happening in office
