Laid off yesterday I don't know what to do. Pls help
I got laid off yesterday and I'm honestly shaking as I type this. I was working as a founding engineer/full-stack developer(JS/TS) at an early stage startup. My total comp was around 6 LPA and I have about 1.8 years of experience. I'm really unsure what to do next
If anyone has been through something similar, I'd really appreciate any advice on:
-
How to quickly get back on my feet and start applying.
-
Whether I should aim for startups again or target bigger companies for stability.
-
Any resources or job boards that have been helpful recently.
-
Tips on updating my résumé and LinkedIn to reflect my experience as a founding engineer. 5. How much salary should I quote in interviews
Any guidance or even words of encouragement would mean a lot right now. Thank you

Hey OP
Sorry to hear about it.
First, calm down. You have the skillset to crack job interviews. But for that, you need a calm mind.
Second, take the relieving letter and also any letter of recommendation or referral that your colleagues can give.
Third, assess your financial situation. If you do have a runway, you can take things slowly. Or shift back to stay with your family. You need the mental and emotional support of your loved ones.

Since you are an immediate joiner, you would have leverage over other candidates.

hang on, prepare for interviews.... even if you don't get job for 3-4 months, don't panic... just believe in yourself

I have around 4YOE worked with 4+ companies and have been let go 2 times. Its tought but just focus on what you can change. Start interviewing, reach out to people/founder for job roles. Register at job platforms. Its will be all good

Hey. Very sorry to hear this. It’s a nerve wracking experience - I’ve been through it myself last year.
I know it’ll be difficult to believe this now - but this will be for the best when you look back at it in a few months.
Take a day or two to resolve your feelings about this and then plan your next steps of action. Please don’t act in a hurry and stress yourself out.
Having said that,
- Please stay in touch with family and friends. Don’t isolate yourself
- Actively avoid thinking of any of this as your fault or a question on your skill. It’s just a organisational decision.
- You now have a chance to upskill yourself and change the course of your career as you envision it.
I can help you with updating resume and LinkedIn, and referrals as well. Please DM me.

Hey my DM limits are still not restored is there any other way or dummy email where I can contact you

Take some time off to reduce your panic. Then sit down and find out your unfair advantages where you can provide value to the companies around. There are countless full stack developers out there. How do you want to differentiate yourself? Try to answer those tough questions to understand yourself better. Based on your Likes and dislikes, create a list of companies in which you are seeing yourself in. Don't focus only on money. Focus on other aspects also like Work culture, learning opportunities etc.
Once you get the list you want to get into, become obsessive about giving value to them through some proof of work or solving their problem etc so that hiring managers/HRs will consider you. It is much better to focus on a few jobs than spray and pray

Hey, went through this last year February. I had 2.5 years experience. Didn't learn enough at my old job to show for. My system design skills were nil.
I made a schedule: 1 week algorithms/dsa/ OS/networks theory, I had to be perfect by the end. Next 2 weeks intense leetcode problem solving... Initially I was only able to do easy problems... But by week 3 I was able to solve medium level consistently. 4th week I concentrated on understanding what system design is about... and what people expect in interviews for it... All the while continuing leetcode medium + try hard occasionally.
From week 1 itself I started applying on naukri/linkedin, taking referrals, pinging talent search folks for openings etc. first month I didn't get many... 2-3 call backs for coding test, which I was able to clear (thanks to leetcode practice), but I always flopped in the system design round. But this gave me experience of what I should expect in design rounds. I went back and looked up answers for those questions and that helped me formulate the answers for future design rounds. By 2nd month I got the hang of system design, but I was not very good. Got around 6-7 companies in the 2nd month, I still couldn't clear the design rounds. But I felt the progress that I was getting the hang of how to approach design problems.
Finally in May, I got an offer... Just one... But that was enough. Overall I gave more than 40 rounds of dsa+system design interviews, over the 3 months. I felt like giving up in between, but my family and friends were there to motivate me, and I powered My suggestions: take a day or 2 to get over it. Then prepare a timetable/schedule or ask chatgpt to do it. And here's the hardest part: stick to the timetable. If you feel like you are falling behind push yourself. And do not keep yourself holed away... or feel self pity. Talk to people, be normal, be yourself, be brave, be consistent. During that phase I started gymming, playing badminton... Getting lot of physical activity to keep my mind fresh. Most importantly don't waste time.
Remember, successful people are not those who don't fall, but those who decide to get up when they fall. All the best, may you find your success like I did.

Every layoff is an opportunity for the next best job.
Take the recommendation letter, etc.
Start preparing for interviews. Give interviews.
Never mention layoffs to HRs, say growth, or family issues, want more challenges, etc etc
Go through JS course and questions.
Grind DSA.
Ask for 12LPA minimum. It's the best opportunity, grab it.
