Not a product manager, but got affected last September. Here's what I did:

  1. I took a week off doing absolutely nothing, letting the situation sink in. My brother came over and we went on a road trip.
  2. Team lead called me, gave me a good pep talk. He even gave me a interview preparation checklist and took many mocks for me over the weekends.
  3. After two weeks, I started applying to different random companies. Applied to more than 50 in the next week. Got calls from half of them for interviews. Most backed off after I told them my previous CTC.
  4. Gave interviews at 3 companies (which I didn't want to join) for practice and cracked two of them. Got my backup offers in a month.
  5. Google reached out through LinkedIn. Took three weeks of preparation and cracked it. Got a lower level than expected though (interviewed for L4 but got L3). Took the offer, but since pay was low, asked recruiter for another attempt for L4.
  6. Attempted PhonePe and AngelOne in the third month and cracked both. Used the L3 offer letter from Google as leverage to get 32% hike over what I was making before getting laid off.
  7. Joined PhonePe because of brand name and it offered ESOPS as well as good base compared to AngelOne.

Business. Not necessarily tech startup, but even traditional businesses are lucrative

Don't startup just because you're not currently employed. Not the best motivation and when the going gets tough, depending on your temperament, you'll have strong second thoughts
