Lack of Project Opportunities and Skill Development at TCS

I joined TCS on December 13, 2021, and have now completed 2.6 years at the organization. During this time, I completed three trainings: ILP in Java, After 6 months of joining given Mainframe Training for Project but Not taken into Project, and CLP in Adibalta. Despite these trainings, I have not gained any hands-on project experience. Various project calls have asked for 3-6 years of experience, even though I joined as a fresher. Some projects were delayed or canceled, and others did not release me from training. The RMG has consistently told me to wait due to a lack of requirements, making me feel like a burden when I follow up. As a result, my 2.5 years at TCS have been wasted, and I have not developed any practical skills. I am still in a fresher (Y grade) position, and I feel that TCS has made me unproductive. Given the current situation both inside and outside the company, I cannot accept staying here any longer.

Accept that if things have been like this for 2.5 years then they most likely will continue like that so don't have any expectations of gaining "skills" from the org. Once you've made peace with that and realise that you're on your own, make a 6 months plan of learning a specific thing, doing certifications and making projects to showcase that you're skilled enough when a requirement arrives. Choose something that has a low barrier to entry and which is used widely, (suggestions based on personal experience: SAP/Salesforce/Java Springboot, et al), keep checking with other employees/social platforms for requirements, and try to get a project in TCS itself, or maybe start applying to other companies as well.

It depends on the skill that you want to learn. Research about it brother, not everything will be spoon fed to you man.

I believe i am struggling the same. I joined in May 22 and got into an internal project which has all the manual work in excel. Then i learned skills as per industry standards and want to switch, however, I have no practical knowledge. I feel depressed now. The salary is also very low, then no learning, and their 5 days wfo thing has made me rather unproductive. I have got ways to waste my time with tea, lunch and some useless tasks i am not interested.

There are lot many projects, only thing is you have to get right contact to fit into that. Most of the projects doesn’t select because there is a client evaluation where they check hands on

Yes, I agree that , I am joined as fresher that time asked Handon and Experience and won't give any project in that time, trainings completed,,but not allowcated, first of All if Any one given chance to work on some projects they get Experience on that ,but If not givening any chance How a fresher get Handon Experience.

Accept it that even if tcs has not provided you projects but you also have not done anything on your own, like personal projects. If you build personal projects then you might be successful without even a project from tcs
So don't blame others when the major fault is ours
Same happened with me during my B.tech thats why I am sharing it

The problem with TCS is that no one wants to groom a new resource. No one means no one. Every dumb manager in TCS expects resources to know things from mother's womb. I have faced this a lot.

I can give you one advice. You need to pretend that you know your skills well. Don't tell you are willing to learn and that you don't have experience.

First find a market relevant technology of your liking. Use your free time to learn it from a plethora of learning opportunities and materials provided by TCS. Somehow get a certification. I know it is difficult without working knowledge. When you go to RMG, project that you have experience in that technology. You will get a project. Gain hands on experience in that technology for one or two years and switch. This is a time taking process. Your skills have been spoilt for 2.5 years. You have to be patient and you will recover.

Best of luck.

As a fresher it's right time to take risk Learn cloud or AI resign and search for jobs. For cloud there is lot of requirement but notice period might be constraint. For 2-3 years expectations outside in the interview will not be much.

Plan for higher studies , this will whitewash your 3 years wasted and will show this as experience and helpful in future.
