Kannadigas forcing others to learn kannada is the same as Hindi people forcing others to learn Hindi
Same as Marathi people forcing Marathi on others, or any other language being forced on anyone.
If kannadigas want outsiders to learn kannada, they should be okay with others wanting them to learn Hindi or any other language when they step out of Karnataka.
Change my mind.

These are outcomes of channeling the energy in wrong directions. And not to mention class differences making a certain section feel highly insecure. Not a single one of my Kannadiga friends share the sentiments of these 'protesters' - but then they are all relatively successful and hardworking corporate professionals. Give these section enough jobs with secure wages and all this stuff will go away.

10-20% unemployment in youth is standard across the country though.
Mnrega and similar schemes were supposed to provide employment but govt isn't funding it anymore.

Afaik Mnrega is focused towards rural youth, but the section here is the urban/suburban youth. Upcoming election angle aside, I feel psychologically there's an aspirational aspect to these outbursts also. India 2 and 3 against India 1

Bro just learn the local language, the only reason anyone's being frisky about people not doing that is cuz the locals have been disrespected for not knowing English/ Hindi, that's the problem and you've gotta come around and help, not trigger people and then crib when they come with pitchforks

No one disrespects locals for not knowing English/Hindi, that's just absurd. Might have happened in rare cases but the opposite is true for a majority of cases.
Look at Mumbai Pune, they moved on from this bs and everyone's busy with employment incoming.
Forcing languages is narrow minded.

Exactly, forcing language is narrow minded, but cases aren't that rare imo, experienced it myself when my school started charging us a penalty for speaking in kannada. BLR moved on from this bs too. Keeps surfacing for political reasons tho, like rn. It's happening cuz the dude behind it wants to affect his stand during the next election round.
Only imporant thing here would be preserving culture, useless debates need to be chucked out of the window🤷🏻♂️

They are forced to learn, if the person has to move to lets say delhi, at least broken hindi will be needed to survive

No one forces people in Delhi to learn Hindi. You can get by with English. No judgement for not knowing it well. Big difference.

@tarkov are you this out of touch with reality? You literally can not survive properly in North India without knowing Hindi, while in bangalore so many north Indians get by using Hindi.

Just like India doesn't have one language similarly even karnataka doesn't have one language only. There are 150 languages in Karnataka alone. How many have you learnt?

Bang on. The biggest hypocrisy of Bangalore is that most of the so called "locals" are actually migrants from neighbouring Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra etc. from 2,3,4 generations.
Less than 20% of Bengaluru population is actually from Bengaluru or even Karnataka.

They were destroying boards, brand logos in English - third wave coffee, starbucks.
Hindi wasn't even in picture this time around. It was already removed from a lot of boards a while back.
Once English is gone, not sure what they'll move on to next. Signs?

True, but no one forces anyone to learn English in India. It's always local languages.
Plus removal of Hindi and English is stupid. Many of them are actual logos, that's literally their branding. Brands don't create logos in every language, they would never be able to do that with hundreds of languages in India or outside India.
It's all absurd. People need to live and let live.

The language politics is the fall out of the failed policies of last 70 years. Ask yourself a simple question, if you had a choice will you stay in a unknown City or go back to your hometown?

If my city had that many opportunities I would definitely go back

I manage with the broken kannada I have learnt, trust me it does help. This might be taken in a different way but its okay to put a little effort and learn the basic, if you look at japan, if you go and work there, you are expected to learn the language and understand their culture

That's just forced assimilation. If people were encouraged in a better way they would learn it properly and even try to learn culture, watch kannada movies etc.
What's happening now is just enough is learned to get from point a to b. That's not really learning kannada, just appeasement of egoistic locals.

And how many kannadigas forced you to speak kannada? Hardly few because most of them are too busy in their lives to put food in the table. And don't pretend that other ethnic groups don't force, I have seen how people force others to speak Hindi and often ask others if they are indian etc.
'If kannadigas want outsiders to learn kannada, they should be okay with others wanting them to learn Hindi or any other language when they step out of Karnataka.'
And who is restricting them? Hindi is a compulsory language from 1st to 10th in Karnataka state board and it has been like this since 1962. This is what happens when you are ignorant of your surroundings and still babble ignorance.
Also its funny how you believe that people never force english/hindi and invalidate others experience whilst you think that your experience is supreme or universal.

Cancelled two autos ( because they had babu in their surname) .. ban kannadigas .. let them break things for 500 rs per day and parade. Until they realise its neither bloom, prestige, starbucks, thirdwave coffee, Kanadigga hovernment that would get affected, its their employment that does in the longer run.
