Bro, I have a different opinion on this. Nothing to do with politics. I have had a few people directly speak to me in Hindi and I have responded back to them when they had just come to the city. It has been 10 years and yet they say, Kannada Gothilla. I have the urge to slap them now.

Why? You want to force them to learn a language? Most Kannadigas don’t speak in Hindi even if they know it and force the person on the other end to speak in English or Kannada? Should they be slapped as well?

I agree with doctordoom. Basic kannada or any language is needed if we have spent more than 5 years. Yet this same people will have resumes with the word adaptability, quick learner and other things.

It's not Bangalore people they are some political parties they need their buffer so they did this.

If people start speaking kannada in corporates , karnataka state will disappear from Indian Map. Maximum gdp comes from Bangalore City due to IT. As it is IT hub. Clients like to work with Indian expecting at least good communication in english not kannada. Without english kannada is valueless, jobless, gdpless etc. Language will never be a barrier for any common citizen for his living.

It's true that English plays a vital role in global business, especially in sectors like IT where international communication is key. However, that doesn't make Kannada—or any regional language—valueless. Languages are not just communication tools; they carry culture, identity, and a sense of belonging.

Adding to my above reply; I also guess your mother tongue is also ain't necessary . Try to communicate only in English

Rather than seeing it as a language war, see it from a cultural aspect. Every culture that has lived through the ages, has a language of its own. Once the language dies, the culture dies. Once the culture dies, its people also die and forget their roots and knowledge that their ancestors passed on. This is where the general concern for diminishing Kannada comes from. I'm a Kannadiga and I never indulged myself in any of these wars thinking it was just some political nonsense. But, having lived in the city since birth, I can see Kannada diminishing day by day.
From many local vendors, to small scale suppliers and daily wagers, everyone who only know Kannada are struggling to make a living bcz the city is filling with more people who don't speak in Kannada. Lack of communication is hurting their earning capabilities. If you are wondering how, say you are looking for a cook. Would you hire someone who speaks your native language or someone who speaks kannada and broken hindi ?
Outside of this, my own friends sometimes speak with me in Hindi and English, even though they know fluent Kannada. Why ? It's because most of their colleagues communicate with them in Hindi and to establish good communication with them, they end up speaking in Hindi. I did ask why not English. They said, a lot of them don't know fluent English and speak like 1yr old baby with poor grammar and hence bad communication. And this hurts me honestly. The only place I get to speak Kannada without needing to switch to my multilingual side, is my home.
If you still aren't able to grasp the gravity of this issue, imagine yourself in a world where you are the native of this city, and a world where Kannada is the major language spoken across India and Hindi is the local language of Karnataka. Now, pretty much everywhere, you are being required to speak Kannada more than Hindi, a language that you barely know, let alone being fluent in it. And when you ask them to learn Hindi bcz you don't know Kannada, some of them will taunt you, and try to dominate and show superiority saying "Kannada is the majorly spoken language across the country and you should've learnt it by now. How dare you ask me to learn another language?"
So, how do you feel about this world ? You love living in this world right ? A world where people barely speak the language that you are fluent at, and have only been taught the very basics of the language in high school and everything else is poorly self taught ?
That's me. That's most of us, Kannadigas. It's easy to point fingers at others. Maybe from next time, try standing in other's shoes and understand the situation from their end as well, before you go asking everything else.
Also, in case you didn't know. Hindi as a language is very different compared to the rest of South India languages. You pick one south indian language, and you can pretty much understand the rest of them good enough.
In case I've sounded aggressive, my apologies if it has hurt you.

You should try to learn regional languages like marathi in Maharashtra. There is nothing wrong in it

I read a story online probably real, 2 friends from different states living in banglore currently When they went back there hometown a mutual friend of there's asked the question about banglore and kannada language same as here. 1 friend said he faces lot of struggle for this and happens to engage into fights with auto or cab drivers for simple things like turning on the AC as they insist to tell this in Kannada. 2 friend never faced this struggle 1st guy was shocked and asked how , he explains whenever they ask me to say that is kannada he simply replies back asking how to say that in kannada and replies back the same words they said.
Lesson: Don't say I won't talk in kannada directly as it hurts/angers the person. Simply try to show a learning attitude like the second guy.

Good point

True idk when we transitioned from अतिथी देवो भव संस्कृती to rehna hai to kannada/marathi me bol

Reservations are getting heat. Politicians want to avoid that. So the fight is now on language.

When in Rome, do as the Romans do. It all started when people said that Hindi is our national language and we all should know that and on top when people moved to some state then they should to try learn that local language but instead they expecting the locals to speak Hindi.
